SAQR Policies

Account Eligibility: Anyone who works for Texas A&M University - Qatar, any other Education City affiliate, or Texas A&M University in College Station is eligible for an account if there exists a legitimate academic or research need. All accounts are set-up through the Information Technology Services account office.

Account Maintenance: Accounts that are not used for a period of six months may be considered inactive and locked; Accounts that are locked for an additional period of six months with no contact from the user may be deleted with no data retention. These measures are in effect to help insure the security and reliability of the system.

Quotas: All users are granted a 1.5 GB soft quota (3 GB hard). To request additional disk space, please e-mail helpdesk@qatar.tamu.edu with specific information regarding why additional space is needed.

Acceptable Applications: Resources are provided for academic or business research. To insure the reliability of the system, unauthorized applications - those that have not been approved by the SAQR system administrators - will be terminated when discovered. Those who repeatedly run unauthorized applications may be subject to losing their privileges on the SAQR cluster.

Additionally, running any application as a daemon on the server in order to receive a connection from outside the server is strictly prohibited.

The use of applications such as password crackers or any attempts to circumvent the security of the SAQR system or any other system will be cause for immediate termination of privileges.

Support procedures: Please e-mail helpdesk@qatar.tamu.edu for any support requests. We try to respond to all support requests (sent to helpdesk@qatar.tamu.edu) within one business day, though complicated problems will naturally take longer to resolve. Users should be aware that the standard workweek in Qatar is Sunday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. AST.

E-mails to individual staff members are not guaranteed a response within any time frame.

Application-specific policies:

DL_POLY: DL-Poly is available for academic research only. Non-academic users should contact the SAQR administrators in order to arrange the appropriate license.

Gaussian: Gaussian is available for academic research only. Per Gaussian's license agreement, users who publish research done using Gaussian must cite the application in their published works. For example citations, please see http://www.gaussian.com/citation.htm
